Greetings! Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your 2012-2013 President of the San Diego Chapter of the National Association Women Business Owners. I would like to give a “big” thanks to our wonderful Past-President, Christine McDannell, for leading this chapter for the past two years with such gentle, yet passionate style. For those “Christine Fans”, I am happy to report that she will be staying on our Board as our Immediate Past-President. One of our key Board commitments has been to run a strong and stable organization with a sustainable long-range strategic plan that will help guide the direction of the Board through the normal annual changes to the Board leadership positions. We believe that taking this longer term approach to planning will allow for more of an organic growth for our chapter and for our members to effortlessly step up into Chapter Chair positions which could then lead to voting Board leadership positions.
Serving on the Board of a non-profit is an honor and a privilege which also comes with many responsibilities. I and our current Board are firmly committed to this organization and to fulfilling all of our required duties during the 2012-2013 term. The National Association of Women Business Owners was created in 1975, by twelve like-minded businesswomen to strengthen their entrepreneurial interests. Today, NAWBO has become the unified and strong voice of more than 10 million women-owned businesses across the country. NAWBO is focused on propelling women entrepreneurs into higher economic, social and political spheres of power.
This year, I am challenging you to commit to growing your annual revenues by 10% while maintaining your industry standard or higher than industry standard expected margins. With the educational and inspirational programs NAWBO has planned for the year, I have no doubt that each and every one of you can achieve this goal provided you make this a firm personal commitment. I want you to start considering NAWBO as part of your support system, for your long term business success, and not merely as a networking group. For example, the Mastermind program is intended to be one of our support vehicles to allow you to find input from other business owners within your mastermind peer group. Two minds are better than one and six or more minds are always better than two!
This year our focus will be mainly placed on connecting with our existing members with the goal of helping our members increase their revenues by better positioning their businesses for success through forming strategic alliances or acquiring certifications. The Woman-Owned Business Set-asides contracts have become a government contracting reality and we as woman-owned businesses should actively pursue and participate in these programs. The NAWBO San Diego Board has made a commitment to creating more opportunities for our members to “Connect”, we are fully committed to “Serving” our membership and we will be thrilled to join you in celebrating your success by watching you “Grow” your businesses. As the local chapter of a National organization, we are committed to following and honoring the core NAWBO National’s objectives of …
• STRENGTHENING the wealth creating capacity of our members and promoting economic development within the entrepreneurial community • CREATING innovative and effective changes in the business culture • BUILDING strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations • TRANSFORMING public policy and influencing opinion makers
In closing, I would like to invite you to make a personal commitment to actively participate in as many of the NAWBO San Diego activities as possible and to wholeheartedly commit to growing your business this year. My wish for you is prosperity beyond your wildest imagination. We must believe that success is near and it is inevitable. Let the cards fall as they may, failure is not an option! Success is within reach and half of it is achieved by simply showing up and not giving up on our hopes and dreams! I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming NAWBO events. Keep your dreams alive!
Warmest Regards, Tamara Badkerhanian-Ganev President/CEO, BSE Engineering, Inc. President, NAWBO San Diego
